Rationale for the classification
1 Explosives Classification not possible
-
-
- - There is a chemical group present in the molecule associated with explosive properties (N-oxide), and the oxygen balance of -290.5 is lower than criteria of -200. It corresponds to 2.1.4.2.2 (b) of GHS Document, but it is unclear whether it corresponds to (c), therefore, the classification is not possible.
2 Flammable gases (including chemically unstable gases) Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
3 Aerosols Not applicable
-
-
- - Not an aerosol product.
4 Oxidizing gases Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
5 Gases under pressure Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
6 Flammable liquids Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
7 Flammable solids Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to no data, the classification is not possible.
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Classification not possible
-
-
- - It does not contain chemical groups associated with self-reactive properties and contains a chemical group associated with explosive properties (N-oxide) in chemical structure, but the classification is not possible due to no data.
9 Pyrophoric liquids Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
10 Pyrophoric solids Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to no data, the classification is not possible.
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible
-
-
- - No established test method suitable for solid substances with a melting point of 140 degrees C or lower.
12 Substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Not applicable
-
-
- - Not containing metals or metalloids (B, Si, P, Ge, As, Se, Sn, Sb, Te, Bi, Po, At).
13 Oxidizing liquids Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
14 Oxidizing solids Classification not possible
-
-
- - It is an organic compound which does not contain fluorine or chlorine but contains oxygen, and the oxygen is chemically bonded to the element other than carbon or hydrogen (N), but the classification is not possible due to no data.
15 Organic peroxides Not applicable
-
-
- - It is an organic compound that does not contain bivalent -O-O- structure in the molecule.
16 Corrosive to metals Classification not possible
-
-
- - No established test method suitable for solid substances.

Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Not applicable
-
-
- - "Solids" according to GHS definition.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to lack of data. Besides, it is reported in SIDS that an aqueous solution of amine oxide (up to 30%) shows moderate to severe skin irritation (SIDS (2007)).
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to lack of data. Besides, it is reported in SIDS that an aqueous solution of amine oxide (up to 30%) shows moderate to severe eye irritation (SIDS (2007)).
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to lack of data. Besides, it is written in SIDS that amine oxides do not show skin sensitization in animals and humans (SIDS (2007)).
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to lack of data. Besides, there are test results in oral administration (drinking water) in rats for C12 amine oxide (hereinafter, referred to as AO) (CAS number: 1643-20-5) and in dermal administration in mice and oral administration (in the diet) in rats for AO of C10 to 16 (CAS number: 70592-80-2). It was reported in all the test results that there is no evidence of carcinogenicity (SIDS (2007)).
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to lack of data. Besides, it is reported that in a two-generation reproductive toxicity test in rats in oral administration (in the diet) and a developmental toxicity test using pregnant rats or rabbits in gavage administration during an organogenetic period for C12 AO (CAS number: 1643-20-5), and in a developmental toxicity test using pregnant rats in gavage administration during an organogenetic period for AO of C10 to 16 (CAS number: 70592-80-2), reproductive/developmental effects were not shown up to the maximum dose of either test, therefore, AOs targeted for evaluation for classification including this substance do not show potential for reproductive toxicity (SIDS (2007)).
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to lack of data.
Besides, as for experimental animals, as data on analog substances, there are reports from a 91-day diet administration toxicity test and a 2-year diet administration toxicity test using rats, a 32-week diet administration toxicity test using rabbits, a 2-year diet administration toxicity test using mice, a 28-day dermal administration toxicity test and a 91-day dermal administration toxicity test using rabbits, a 91-day dermal administration toxicity test using rats for AO of C10 to 16 (CAS number: 70592-80-2), a 91-day diet administration toxicity test using rats, and a 28-day dermal administration toxicity test using rabbits for C12 AO (CAS number: 1643-20-5). Among these, what found as systemic toxicity were only opacity of eyeball at 112 mg AO/kg/day and decreased body weight at 150 mg AO/kg/day in a 91-day diet administration toxicity test using rats, decreased body weight at males: 87.4, females: 107 mg AO/kg/day in a 2-year diet administration toxicity test using rats, increased relative liver weight at 196 mg AO/kg/day in a 32-week diet administration toxicity test using rabbits (SIDS (2007)).
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible
-
-
- - Due to lack of data, the classification is not possible.
