1 | Acute toxicity (Oral) | Category 3 |
Danger |
H301 | P301+P310 P264 P270 P321 P330 P405 P501 |
Based on reports of LD50 values for rats of 115 mg/kg (Hazard Assessment Report (CERI, NITE, 2008)) and 84 mg Sb/kg (230 mg/kg as C8H4K2O12Sb2 3H2O) (DFGOT Vol. 23 (2007)), it was classified in Category 3. |
1 | Acute toxicity (Dermal) | Classification not possible |

1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. |
2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, there is a report that as a result of an application of this substance to human abraded skin as an ointment, slight irritation was observed. |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. |
4 | Respiratory sensitization | Classification not possible |

5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Category 2 |
Warning |
H341 | P308+P313 P201 P202 P280 P405 P501 |
As for in vivo, there are reports that a chromosomal aberration test with rat bone marrow cells in intraperitoneal administration of this substance was positive (DFGOT Vol. 23 (2007)), and that a chromosome examination with peripheral blood lymphocytes of human (patient) dosed with this substance was positive (Initial Risk Assessment Report (NITE, CERI, NEDO, 2008), NTP DB (Access on August 2015)). As for in vitro, it was negative in bacterial reverse mutation tests (Initial Risk Assessment Report (NITE, CERI, NEDO, 2008), NTP DB (Access on August 2015)). Since there is a positive result of in vivo somatic mutagenicity, it was classified in Category 2. |
6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Either ACGIH (ACGIH (7th, 2001)) or Japan Society For Occupational Health (JSOH) (OEL Documentations (2013)) classified nothing other than antimony trioxide for carcinogenicity, and classification was not possible due to lack of data for this substance. |
7 | Reproductive toxicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, there is a description that in a single administration of 30 mg/kg of this substance (no description on the administration route) to pregnant mice on day 11 of gestation, no skeletal abnormalities were observed in the fetuses (DFGOT Vol. 23 (2007)). |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 3 (Respiratory tract irritation) |
Warning |
H335 | P304+P340 P403+P233 P261 P271 P312 P405 P501 |
No information was available for this substance. Based on a description that antimony and its compounds are irritating to the respiratory tract (ACGIH (7th, 2001)), it was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation). Besides, it was impossible to confirm descriptions of effects on the lungs or the pulmonary edemas mentioned in the previous classification. Information was confirmed, and the previous classification was revised. |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (liver) |
Warning |
H373 | P260 P314 P501 |
No information on humans is available. As for experimental animals, in a 13-week toxicity test with rats dosed by drinking water, at 500 ppm (male: 42.2 mg/kg/day, female: 45.7 mg/kg/day) within the range of Category 2, decreased water consumption, decreased body weight gain, reduced relative kidney weight, decreased serum creatinine, and decreased ALP activity were seen, and hematuria and liver cirrhosis in males, and anisonucleosis in the liver, and decreases in serum cholesterol and total protein in females were observed (Initial Risk Assessment Report (NITE, CERI, NEDO, 2008), DFGOT vol. 23 (2007)). Therefore, it was classified in Category 2 (liver). Besides, the description on "Antimony and its compounds" in ACGIH which was used as evidence in the previous classification is that pneumonitis, cardiac and hematological diseases were anticipated from acute and chronic exposure to high concentrations (ACGIH (7th, 2001)). Since it was considered to be based on pneumonia caused by antimony fume, pneumoconiosis caused by diantimony trioxide, and heart disease caused by antimony trisulfide, it was not adopted as rationale for the classification. |

11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) | Category 3 |
- |
H402 | P273 P501 |
From 24-hour LC50 = 4920 microg Sb/L for crustacea (Simocephalus mixtus) (converted value: 13.5 mg/L, AQUIRE, 2016), it was classified in Category 3. |
11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) | Category 3 |
- |
H412 | P273 P501 |
Reliable chronic toxicity data were not obtained. Due to acute toxicity Category 3, and because appropriate data on rapid degradability were not obtained, it was classified in Category 3. |
12 | Hazardous to the ozone layer | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | No data available. |
