It is reported in SIDS (2006) that in a skin irritation test with rabbits according to OECD TG 404, a skin irritation score after 72 hours was 2.9, and among erythema and edema that were observed, erythema disappeared within 15 days. Other than this, it is reported that in a sensitization test with guinea pigs according to OECD TG 406, irritation by this substance markedly occurred. Besides, it is reported that in a maximization test (concentration in petrolatum: 8%) in 108 volunteers, there was no irritation. Among the above information, based on the test according to TG 404, it was classified in Category 2.

In two eye irritation tests (OECD TG 405) with rabbits, it was assessed to be slightly irritating (SIDS (2006)). In one test of them, corneal opacity, iritis, conjunctival redness, and chemosis were observed as findings, the average scores on day 1 were 1 or higher for corneal opacity and 2 or higher for conjunctival redness, and most findings disappeared within eight days. As for fertility, in a one-generation reproductive toxicity test with rats in the oral route, reproductive toxicity (increased mortality of offspring on postnatal days 1-4) was observed at the dose where maternal toxicity (salivation, increased kidney and liver weights) was seen.
