It corresponds to Category 2 from a flash point of 15.5 deg C [closed-cup] (GESTIS (Access on Oct. 2012)) < 23 deg C and an initial boiling point of 98,6-99,0 deg C (MSDS (Sigma-Aldrich) (Access on Oct. 2012)) > 35 deg C.
7 Flammable solids Not applicable
-
-
- - Liquid (GHS definition)
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Not applicable
-
-
- - There are no chemical groups present in the molecule associated with explosive or self-reactive properties.
9 Pyrophoric liquids Not classified
-
-
- - It is estimated that it does not ignite at normal temperatures from an autoignition temperature of > 340 deg C (MSDS (Sigma-Aldrich) (Access on Oct. 2012)).
10 Pyrophoric solids Not applicable
-
-
- - Liquid (GHS definition)
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible
-
-
- - Test methods applicable to liquid substances are not available.
12 Substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Not classified
-
-
- - There is a metalloid (Si) present in the molecule, but it is estimated that it does not react vigorously with water from water solubility data of 0.995 g/L (MSDS (Sigma-Aldrich) (Access on Oct. 2012)).
13 Oxidizing liquids Classification not possible
-
-
- - The substance is an organic compound containing oxygen (but not fluorine or chlorine) which is chemically bonded to the element other than carbon or hydrogen (Si). However, the classification is not possible due to no data.
14 Oxidizing solids Not applicable
-
-
- - Liquid (GHS definition)
15 Organic peroxides Not applicable
-
-
- - Organic compounds containing no bivalent -O-O- structure.
16 Corrosive to metals Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.

Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable
-
-
- - Liquid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Not classified
-
-
- - It was classified as "Not classified" because it is reported that it was negative in both dominant lethal tests with rats by oral administration (Netherlands assessment document (2001), corresponding to List 2) or intraperitoneal administration (HSDB (2007)) (in vivo heritable germ cell mutagenicity test), and it is also reported that it was negative in a chromosomal aberration test with bone marrow cells after intraperitoneal administration to rats (in vivo somatic cell mutagenicity test). Besides, as for in vitro tests, there is a report on negative results in both an Ames test and a chromosomal aberration test with cells derived from Chinese hamster lung (CHL/IU) (JECDB (Access on Oct. 2012)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible
-
-
- - In a 28-day repeated oral administration toxicity test with rats (Guidelines specified by the Chemical Substances Control Law, GLP-compliant: doses, 0, 10, 40, 160, 640 mg/kg/day), effects were observed only at the highest dose of 640 mg/kg/day (converted guidance value: 199 mg/kg/day) and were a decrease in body weights and an increase in relative liver weights as well as signs of decreased spontaneous activity and staggering gait, no effects of the administration of the test substance were found in blood, blood biochemistry examination, or pathological examination, and the NOEL was reported to be 160 mg/kg/day (converted guidance value: 50 mg/kg/day) (JECDB (Access on Oct. 2012)). From the above, because no adverse effects were seen at the dose (640 mg/kg/day) above the guidance value range, it corresponds to "Not classified" in the oral route. However, because effects are unknown in the other routes due to no data, it was classified as "Classification not possible" for this hazard class.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.

Rationale for the classification
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Not classified
-
-
- - It was classified as "Not classified" from 48-hour EC50 = 124 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) and 96-hour LC50 = 271 mg/L for fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss) (SIDS (Methyltriacetoxysilane), 2006).
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Not classified
-
-
- - Reliable chronic toxicity data were not obtained. It was classified as "Not classified" because it is not water-insoluble (water solubility: 42560 mg/L, PHYSPROP Database, 2012), and it was classified as "Not classified" in acute toxicity.
12 Hazardous to the ozone layer Classification not possible
-
-
- - This substance is not listed in the Annexes to the Montreal Protocol.
