2 Flammable gases (including chemically unstable gases) Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
3 Aerosols Not applicable - - - Not an aerosol product.
4 Oxidizing gases Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
5 Gases under pressure Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
6 Flammable liquids Not classified - - - A flash point of 113 degrees C [closed cup] (MSDS (Sigma-Aldrich) (Access on Nov. 2011)) is above 93 degrees C.
7 Flammable solids Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Not applicable - - - There are no chemical groups present in the molecule associated with explosive or self-reactive properties.
9 Pyrophoric liquids Not classified - - - It is conceivable that it does not ignite at normal temperatures from an ignition point of 276.6 degrees C (NITE Chemical Risk Information Platform (Access on Nov. 2011)).
10 Pyrophoric solids Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - No established test method suitable for liquid substances.
12 Substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Not applicable - - - Not containing metals or semimetals (B, Si, P, Ge, As, Se, Sn, Sb, Te, Bi, Po, At).
13 Oxidizing liquids Not applicable - - - An organic compound that contains oxygen which is not chemically bonded to elements other than carbon or hydrogen.
14 Oxidizing solids Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
15 Organic peroxides Not applicable - - - An organic compound that does not contain -O-O- structure.
16 Corrosive to metals Classification not possible - - - No data.

Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Not classified - - - From an LD50 value of > 10000 mg/kg bw for rats (SIDS (2006)), it was classified as "Not classified."
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Not classified - - - From an LD50 value of 3160 to 5000 mg/kg bw for rabbits (SIDS (2006)), it was classified as "Not classified" in the JIS classification (Category 5 in UN GHS classification).
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - No data.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - There is an LC50 value of > 0.4 mg/L in 6-hour exposure to rats (converted to a 4-hour equivalent; > 0.6 mg/L) (SIDS (2006)), but the classification is not possible because the category cannot be determined due to lack of data.
Besides, a reference value of mist was applied because the test concentration is higher than the saturated vapour pressure concentration (0.028 mg/L).
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Category 2

P362
It was classified in Category 2 because a skin irritation test (OECD TG404) in 4-hour occlusive application with undiluted this substance to rabbits reported irritating and Draize average scores of 0.8 for edema and 2.3 for erythema in 3 days after removal of patches (SIDS (2006)).
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 2B

P337+P313
P264
On the basis that all of slight to moderate conjunctival redness, slight corneal opacity, and a change in the iris observed after 24 hours reversed in 7 days, a 3-day average score was 10.3 (the highest score 110), and the result was slightly irritating in an eye irritation test applied 0.1 mL of undiluted this substance to rabbits (US FHSA) (SIDS (2006)), it was classified in Category 2B.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - No data.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - Because details of a maximization test on 25 volunteers that reported "not sensitizing" are unknown (SIDS (2006)), the classification is not possible due to lack of data.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - No data.
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - No data.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - No data.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible - - - Both a dose of 10000 mg/kg in an acute oral toxicity test in rats, and doses of 2000 mg/kg (males) and 3160 mg/kg (females) in an acute dermal toxicity test in rabbits, no deaths, decreases in food consumption and activity, and no abnormalities in general signs and necropsy were observed. (SIDS (2006))
On the other hand, in an acute inhalation (mist) toxicity test in rats, no deaths, and no abnormalities in general signs and necropsy occured in 6-hour exposure to 0.4 mg/L (converted to a 4-hour equivalence: 0.6 mg/L)) which is as low as a dose within a range of Category 1 in Guidance values. And there is no test data at doses within a range of Category 2 or close to the upper limit of that in Guidance values.
From the above, it corresponds to "Not classified" in oral and dermal administration because adverse effects were not observed at doses above the range of Category 2 in Guidance values, but the classification is not possible in the specific target organ toxicity (single exposure) due to lack of data in inhalation administration.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - No data.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - This substance, which is a normal primary alcohol having 11 of carbon atoms, corresponds to Category 2 in UN GHS classification.
But the classification is not possible because JIS classification does not use Category 2.
Besides, kinematic viscosity of this substance is 20.7 mm2/s at 20 degrees C (density: 0.83 g/cm3, viscosity: 17.2 mPa.s (HSDB (2006))).

11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Category 2
No pictogram

No signal word
H401
P273
P501
It was classified in Category 2 from 96-hour LC50 = 1.04 mg/L for fish (Pimephales promelas) (ECETOC TR91, 2003).
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Category 2

No signal word
H411
P273
P391
P501
Reliable chronic toxicity data are not obtained.
Because appropriate data on rapid degradability was not obtained and it was classified in Category 2 in acute toxicity, it was classified in Category 2.
12 Hazardous to the ozone layer Classification not possible - - - This substance is not listed in Annexes to the Montreal Protocol.
