Application with 0.1 mL of 10% or 50% solution of this substance to rabbit eyes caused eyelid closure and conjunctival hyperemia at 10 and 30 minutes after application respectively and eye discharge after 2 hours. (EHC 87 (1989))
Furthermore, there is the information that this substance causes mild primary irritation to rabbit eyes (HSGs (1989), corresponding to List 1).
Though reported effects were mild in the above, because not an undiluted but diluted solution was applied, it was classified in Category 2.

It was classified in Category 1 because it is listed as a contact allergy substance in Contact Dermatitis (Frosch) (Contact Dermatitis 4th (2006)).
Besides, signs of the site of application at the skin were not different from a control group, but slight lymphocytic and monocytic infiltration of the dermis were observed in a treated group in a histopathological test in a skin sensitization test using guinea pigs (EHC 87 (1989)).
Furthermore, slight sensitization indicated in an Ear-Flank test using guinea pigs was reported (EHC 87 (1989)).

Besides, a negative or a positive in an Ames test (EHC 87 (1989), HSDB (2009)) and a positive in a chromosomal aberration test using Chinese hamsters (HSDB (2009)) are reported as in vitro tests.

7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - In a developmental toxicity test by oral administration in pregnant rats during an organogenetic period, increased maternal mortality in the highest dose group, but no effects on body weight and weight gain in maternal animals, no effects on a pregnancy index, implantations, numbers of live and dead fetuses, and resorptions were observed. And evidence of teratogenicity and fetal toxicity except for an increased number of the skeletal mutation (14 ribs) was not found. (EHC 87 (1989)).
Also in an oral administration test in pregnant rabbits during an organogenetic period, indices of gestation and fetal development were not different from a control group, nor were observed dose-related morphological defects in fetal bones or an external surface. (EHC 87 (1989))
From the above, adverse effects on the development of the offspring were not observed, but it was classified as "Classification not possible" due to lack of data on effects on sexual function and fertility.

There is the information that the main toxic effects of this substance result from its action on the nervous system (EHC 87 (1989)).
There is the information that the main adverse effect caused by dermal exposure to pyrethroids represented by this substance is paresthesia in humans (HSDB (2009)). And there is the information that common signs of systemic effects are dizziness, headache, and fatigue, a few frequent palpitations, chest tightness, and blurred vision, and the main life-threatening signs are coma and convulsions (HSDB (2009)).
From the information from List 2 information, it was classified in Category 2 (nervous system).
On the other hand, there is the information that the localized upper respiratory tract disorders such as rhinitis, sneezing, scratchy throat, oral edema, and laryngeal mucosal edema, and a cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest pain considered as the localized lower respiratory tract disorders were observed in inhalation exposure. (HSDB (2009))
From the information, it was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation).

On the basis that consecutive increases of alkaline phosphatase activity and hepatocellular degeneration in a histopathological test were observed at 1000 ppm (36 mg/kg/day) or higher corresponding to a range of Category 2 in Guidance values in a 6-month diet administration test in dogs (0, 200, 1000, or 5000 ppm) (EHC 87 (1989)), it was classified in Category 2 (liver).
Besides, tremor and convulsions at 10000 ppm (corresponding to 500 mg/kg/day) in a 16-week diet administration test in rats, hypertrophy of epithelial cells and papillary changes in the epithelium in the thyroids at 250 and 500 mg/kg in a 12-week gavage administration test in rats, and bronchopneumonia at 3 mg/L (converted to a 90-day 6-hour equivalent value 0.61 mg/L) in a 4-week inhalation exposure test (4 hours/day) in mice were reported. (EHC 87 (1989))
But those signs were observed at doses above the upper limit of Guidance values.
