A flash point of 19 degrees C [closed cup] [Hommel (1996)] is < 23 degrees C, and an initial boiling point of 116 degrees C [Ullmanns (E) (2003)] is > 35 degrees C, therefore it corresponds to Category 2.
7 Flammable solids Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Not applicable - - - Containing neither chemical groups related to explosibility nor those related to self-reactivity.
9 Pyrophoric liquids Not classified - - - It is conceivable that it does not ignite at normal temperatures from an ignition point of 425 degrees C [Hommel (1996)].
10 Pyrophoric solids Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - No established test method suitable for liquid substances.

All of three LD50 values for rats (360, 600, 400-1600 mg/kg) (SIDS (2005)), which are subjects for classification, correspond to Category 4.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - The lowest dose of 700 mg/kg at which one or more animals died in a rabbit test was reported (SIDS (2005)), but the classification is not possible because the category can not be determined only from this data.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - "Liquids" according to GHS definition.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Category 1

On the basis of an LC50 value of 0.059 mg/L/4h (14.55 ppm V/4h) for rats (OECD TG403; GLP compliance) (SIDS (2005)), it was classified in Category 1.
Besides, a reference value of gasses was applied because the toxicity value (14.55 ppm) is lower than 90 % of the saturated vapour pressure concentration (23158 ppm).
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - No data.

After occlusive application of 0.5 mL of an undiluted test substance to rabbit ears for 15 or 30 minutes, effects became more serious and the skin was perforated in 1 to 2 days. Surface skin scaling was observed at the end of observation period of 7 days.
On the basis of the evaluation as "highly corrosive" (SIDS (2005)), it was classified in Category 1.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 1

Danger
H318
P305+P351+P338
P280
P310
Immediately after application of 0.1 mL into a conjunctival sac of rabbits, strong erythema with pronounced chemosis which remained unchanged until the end of the observation period of 7 days.
The evaluation of the cornea, which showed diffuse opacity, was restricted to the first day of the observation period. Afterwards, cornea and iris could not be examined due to edema of the conjunctiva.
On the basis of the evaluation as "highly corrosive" (SIDS (2005)), it was classified in Category 1.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - No data.
Besides, a report in which a challenge reaction was temporary and not severe after inducing with a conjugated form of bovine serum albumin and butyl isocyanate after inhalation exposures to guinea pigs (SIDS (2005)) is not used as a basis for classification because it is considered not to be an appropriately established animal model for a respiratory sensitization test at this time.

On the basis of a report of a guinea pig maximization test which results in "sensitizing" with 100% positive rate from 15/15 with distinct erythema and slight edema in several animals after challenges (SIDS (2005)), it was classified in Category 1.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - The classification is not possible because there are no in vivo test data.
Besides, a negative in an Ames test and a positive in a germ cell mutagenicity test using L5178Y mouse lymphoma cells are reported as in vitro tests (SIDS (2005)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - No data.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - No data.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 1 (respiratory system)

Rats dose-dependently showed clinical signs indicating respiratory tract irritation such as bradypnea, dyspnea, labored breathing, and cyanosis by an inhalation exposure at concentrations of 0.007 mg/L/4h (vapour) or higher.
Addition to an occurrence of deaths at 0.056 mg/L/4h (vapour) or higher, significant gross findings in the lungs such as pulmonary edema and hydrothorax observed in necropsy were the only macroscopic detectable effects at the end of the post-observation period (SIDS (2005)).
Also, another inhalation test exposed 0.008 to 0.050 mg/L/4h to rats reported that effects on respiratory tracts were mainly observed, animals died due to respiratory tract lesions at 0.050 mg/L/4h, the prominent microscopic changes such as an increased number of macrophages, perivascular round-cell infiltration, focal fibroproliferative reactions, emphysema, thickening of septa, and abscessive pneumonia were observed at concentrations of 0.025 mg/L/4h or higher, and bradypnea and mucous membrane irritation were observed at 0.008 mg/L/4h (SIDS (2005)).
From the above, it was classified in Category 1 (respiratory system) because a target organ is a respiratory system including respiratory tracts and lungs, and test concentrations were within a value range of Category 1 in Guidance.
Besides, symptoms which are relevant to a respiratory system such as labored breathing and cyanosis were observed at doses of 200 mg/kg or higher in a single dose oral administration test to rats (SIDS (2005)).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - Lack of data.
Besides, a report in which an inhalation exposure of 1 to 25 mg/m3 concentrations to male rats showed no significant toxicity effects in 5 mg/m3 but showed changes in biochemical and cellular components in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in 5 mg/m3 or higher as evidence of inflammations of respiratory tracts is not used as a basis for classification due to a short exposures period as 5 days (SIDS (2005)).
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - No data.

11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Category 3 - H402
P273
P501
From 96-hour LC50 = 24 mg/L for fish (Menidia beryllina) for a hydrolysate (n-butylamine) (SIDS, 2008), it was classified in Category 3.
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Not classified - - - Reliable chronic toxicity data were not obtained.
It is classified as "Not classified" due to rapid degradability (a degradation rate by OECD TG302D: 62 %, a degradation rate of a hydrolysate by OECD TG301C: 85 % (SIDS, 2005)), a low bioaccumulation estimate from a hydrolytic property (SIDS, 2008), and no bioaccumulation of the hydrolysate (BCF: 4.1 (SIDS, 2008)), despite acute toxicity Category 3.
12 Hazardous to the ozone layer Classification not possible - - - This substance is not listed in Annexes to the Montreal Protocol.
