P322: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P361: Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.
P363: Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Based on a LD50 value of 500 mg/kg for guinea pigs (PATTY (5th, 2001)), the substance was classified into Category 3.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Solid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - Animal study data are not available. Although a fatal case resulting from an accident at a chemical plant has been reported (ACGIH (7th, 2001)), the assumable exposure routes includes inhalation of vapor and dermal absorption.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - Although there is a report that "The substance is a strong base and would be expected to be mild-to-moderate dermal irritants" (PATTY (5th, 2001)), the classification is not possible from this information alone and classification was not possible due to lack of data.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 2B - Warning H320: Causes eye irritation P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P337+P313: If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
Based on a result of "a slight, transient eye injury" following application to rabbit cornea (PATTY (5th, 2001)), the substance was classified into Category 2B.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data from in vivo mutagenicity tests. From in vitro mutagenicity tests, there is a report of a negative Ames test (ACGIH (2001)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 1 (central nervous system) Danger H370: Causes damage to organs (central nervous system) P307+P311: IF exposed: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
There is a case report of a chemical operator who spilled the substance during distillation in a chemical plant. The operator developed dizziness, headache, respiratory distress, and convulsions that progressed to death (ACGIH (2001)). In a second serious case, the exposed individual's symptoms included severe headaches and weakness followed by convulsions and a stuporous state that lasted several days (PATTY (4th, 1994)). In the clinical setting, 1 mg/kg administered IV in postoperative patients resulted in restlessness, confusion (seizures) and central nervous system excitation during the recovery period (HSDB (2009)). Based on the data, the substance was classified into Category 1 (central nervous system).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
