The anticoagulant effects of the substance were evaluated following a single dose to 18 patients. The toxic reactions of hemoglobinemia, and hemoglobinuria were reported (PATTY (5th, 2001)) and the substance was classified into Category 1 (blood system). In two rat tests, the effects on the cardiovascular (IRIS (Draft) (2008)) and liver (PATTY (5th, 2001)) were reported. As relevant information, the information was obtained from intravenous injection tests, therefore the results were not used as the basis for classification.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - Although there are numerous case reports of workers developing interstitial lung disease or pneumoconiosis after occupational exposure to cerium compounds (including cerium oxide) and other rare earth elements, it can not be determined whether the effects were caused by cerium itself. In addition, there is a report that a dose and exposure period-dependent increase in abnormal spermatozoa was observed at dose levels of 200 mg/kg (90-day equivalence: 67 mg/kg) and higher in 30-day or 45-day oral tests in mice. However, classification was not possible due to lack of other sufficient data.
