Based on a LC50 value of approx. 2.45 mg/L/4h (604 ppmV) for rats (HSDB (2003)), the substance was classified into Category 3. Since saturated vapour pressure concentration is 10644 ppm, the test was considered to be conducted for vapour with almost no included mists and classification criteria for gas was adopted.

In a rat acute oral toxicity test, some survivors of 14-day post-gavage observation exhibited slight lung congestion and zones of slight liver discoloration at dose levels of 7.9 to 31.6 mg/kg, within the guidance value range for Category 1. Necropsy of lethalities revealed hemorrhagic lungs, liver discoloration, and gastrointestinal inflammation (HSDB (2003)). In a rat acute vapour inhalation toxicity test, lung congestion was observed on necropsy for both survivors and lethalities at dose levels of 1.95 - 2.77 mg/L within the guidance value range for Category 1 (HSDB (2003)). Although the substance correspond to Category 1 based on guidance value range, the substance was classified into Category 2 (respiratory system) because of information in List 2 and non-meeting Decision criteria 1b 3).
