In a rat inhalation test (vapour) (GLP) there were no deaths and macroscopic and microscopic examination at necropsy after exposure was terminated revealed no compound related effects at 61000 ppm/4h. The animals became narcotized but revived within 30 minutes of cessation of exposure (SIDS (2004)). Additionally, there is a report of lethargic as a sign after oral administration to rats (SIDS (2004)). Therefore, the substance was classified into Category 3 (narcotic effects).

In the 2000 ppm (5.2 mg/L/6h) (90-day equivalence: 1.6 mg/L/6h) dosed males, a slight increase in severity of myocardial inflammatory heart lesions and cortical/medullary tubular basophilia in the kidneys were observed (SIDS (2004)). Classification was not possible due to lack of data for evidence of effects near the upper limit guidance value range of Category 2.
