HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Category 4 Warning H302: Harmful if swallowed P301+P312: IF SWALLOWED: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P330: Rinse mouth.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Based on its rat LD50 = 522 mg/kg (HSDB, 2006), the substance was classified into Category 4. As relevant information, also it is reported that its rat LD50 = 4197 mg/kg, but, since the substance was "technical," the data was not taken into consideration.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Not classified - - - - Since its rabbit LD50 = 2480 mg/kg (HSDB, 2006), the substance was classified into "Not classified" in JIS classification (Category 5 in UN classification).
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Solid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - There are no in vivo test data or multi-index in vitro mutagenicity positive results available. As relevant information, an Ames test showed negative results (EHC 64 (1968)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - In a three-month oral administration (diet) test using rats and mice, the maximum no-effect dose was 8.1 mg/kg/day for rats and 15.3 mg/kg/day for mice. Since, as the effects of the substance, at doses of 195 mg/kg/day (rat) and 266 mg/kg/day (mouse) above the guidance value of Category 2, only a slight decrease in hemoglobin and a marked increase in weights of the liver and spleen were found (HSDB (2006)), the substance should be classified into "Not classified" (oral). However, since there is no data on other routes available, the substance was classified into "Classification not possible". As relevant information, a brown pigmentation was noticed in the reticular cells of the spleen of mice and rats, in Kupffer cells of the liver of mice, and in epithelial cells of the kidney tubules of rats. However, a correlation between the substance and pigmentation could not be assumed (HSDB (2006)).
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available.

11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data.
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data.
