P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Of rabbit LD50 values of 1260mg/kg and 660mg/kg (SIDS (accessed June 2008)), the smaller LD50 value was used as a basis to classify the substance into Category 3.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Liquid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - Its rat LC50 (4hr) of > 0.107mg/L/4h (mixture of vapor and mist) (SIDS (accessed June 2008)) has been documented. However, the substance was classified into "Classification not possible" due to lack of other data.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Category 1 Danger H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage P301+P330+P331: IF SWALLOWED: Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting.

P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P304+P340: IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing.
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
P310: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P363: Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
In several rabbit tests (Draize tests, etc.), exposure to the undiluted substance for 4 hours resulted in necrosis in half or more animals and the substance was concluded to be corrosive (SIDS (accessed in June 2008)). In addition, its EU Risk Phrase is "R34: corrosive" and its pH is >= 11.5. From these, the substance was classified into Category 1.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 1 Danger H318: Causes serious eye damage P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
P310: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
In the rabbit tests in which various concentrations and doses of the substance were applied to the eyes, the substance was evaluated to be moderately irritating with observation of corneal damage and iritis. In the tests in which 5 drops of the substance were applied, it caused severe burns and was evaluated to be highly irritating (SIDS (accessed June 2008)). In addition, its EU Risk Phrase is R34: causes burns and its pH is >= 11.5. From these results and since it is known to be skin corrosive, the substance was classified into Category 1.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Category 1 Warning H317: May cause an allergic skin reaction P302+P352: IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water.
P333+P313: If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.
P261: Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P272: Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P363: Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
In skin sensitization tests using guinea pigs (maximization tests), positive reactions were seen in 78% of treated animals (14 of 18 animals), concluding that the substance was sensitizing (SIDS (accessed in June 2008)). Based on these results, the substance was classified into Category 1.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Not classified - - - - Micronucleus tests using erythrocytes of mice that underwent intraperitoneal administration (in vivo mutagenicity tests using somatic cells) yielded negative results (SIDS (accessed June 2008)). As such, the substance was classified into "Not classified". Among in vitro mutagenicity tests, some of the reverse mutation tests using bacteria yielded positive results depending on bacterial strains (SIDS (accessed June 2008)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - Dermal exposure tests, in which male mice were exposed throughout their lives, resulted in no detection of skin carcinogenicity (SIDS (accessed June 2008)). However, due to lack of other data, classification is not possible.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible due to lack of data on reproductive and developmental toxicity.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible - - - - Insufficient data available.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - Not much data from repeated exposure tests are available. In 4-week oral administration tests using rabbits, no systemic toxicity was detected at a high dose (200mg/kg/day), and its NOAEL was estimated to be 200mg/kg/day (SIDS (accessed June 2008)). However, since no other data were available, classification is not possible.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS

11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Category 1 Warning H400: Very toxic to aquatic life P273: Avoid release to the environment.
P391: Collect spillage.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since its 72-hour ErC50 = 0.12mg/L for algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) (Test for the Ecological Effect of Chemical Substances (Ministry of the Environment), 1998), the substance was classified into Category 1.
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Category 1 Warning H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects P273: Avoid release to the environment.
P391: Collect spillage.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since its classification for acute toxicity is Category 1 and it is not rapidly degradable (non-biodegradable, degradability based on OECD 301D-compliant, 4-week tests: 0% (SIDS, 2003)), the substance was classified into Category 1.
