HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Classification not possible - - - - Although its rat LC50 of > 10066ppm/4h was documented (SIDS (accessed June 2008)), a proper category for the substance could not be specified. Thus, classification is not possible.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Not applicable - - - - Gas (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Not applicable - - - - Gas (GHS definition)
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible due to lack of in vivo data. In vitro mutagenicity tests (reverse mutation tests using bacteria and chromosomal aberration tests using rat lymphocytes) yielded negative results (SIDS (accessed June 2008), PATTY (5th, 2001)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - In OECD Combined Repeated Dose Toxicity Study with the Reproduction/Developmental Toxicity Screening Tests using rats, there were no effects on litter size, sex ratio, and survival rate (SIDS (accessed in June 2008)). However, classification is not possible due to insufficient data regarding effects on development of the offspring including teratogenicity.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 3 (Narcotic effects) Warning H336: May cause drowsiness or dizziness (narcotic effects) P304+P340: IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing.
P403+P233: Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed.
P261: Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P271: Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
P312: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
The substance may cause inhibition of the central nervous system in mice exposed to high concentrations (300-400mg/L) (PATTY (5th, 2001)). In rats, immediately after being exposed to up to 10057 ppm caused a restless state followed by sleep during the remaining exposure period, but no mortality occurred (IUCLID (2000)). The substance also may cause effects on the central nervous system in humans (PATTY (5th, 2001)). The substance was classified into Category 3 (narcotic effects) because the suppression of the central nervous system is indicated in humans and animals, and temporary sleep was observed in rats after exposure.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - The combined repeated dose toxicity study with the reproduction/developmental toxicity screening test using rats that underwent inhalation exposure was the only source of data on a repeated exposure test. Although serious toxicity was not detected at the high concentration of 5000 ppm in this test (SIDS (accessed in June 2008), IUCLID (2000)), the substance was classified into the "Classification not possible" category because this test was a screening test and it did not provide sufficient information.
10 Aspiration hazard Not applicable - - - - Gas (GHS definition)
