Its mouse LC50 through 30-minute inhalation exposure is 1500 mg/m3 (Patty 5th, 2001). The 30-minute LC50 value was converted to 4-hour LC50 value using the following equation: LC50 (4 hours) = 1500*sqrt (0.5) / sqrt (4) = 530 mg/m3. Moreover, with the use of the conversion factor: 1 mg/m3 = 0.1567 ppm (at 25degC), LC50 (4 hours) = 83.1 ppm. Its saturated vapour pressure at 25degC = 65.1 mmHG*133.3 = 8677.8 Pa = 8.677 kPa and its saturated vapour pressure concentration (25degC) = 85,911 ppm. Because the LC50 value, 83.1 ppm, is lower than 90% of the saturated vapour pressure concentration, the experiment was conducted presumably in a vapour with almost no included mists. Thus, using ppm-based concentration criteria, the substance was classified into Category 1.

Evaluating the following descriptions comprehensively, the substance was classified into Category 2 (blood system and respiratory system): people who made a contact with this substance developed bone marrow degeneration within 12 hours, which progressed to severe aplasia. These people also experienced a moderate anemia accompanied with lymphopenia, granulocytopenia, and thrombocytopenia (HSDB, 2004); this substance causes respiratory tract injury (HSDB, 2004); inhaling nitrogen mustard can irritate the nose and throat (HSFS, 1998); and this substance may be corrosive to the skin and eyes (Patty 5th, 2001).
