HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Category 3 Danger H301: Toxic if swallowed P301+P310: IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P330: Rinse mouth.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Based on the rat LD50 = 56.3mg/kg in the oral administration test(Dokubutu Gekibutu Toriatukai no Tebiki (Handbook for Handling Poisonous and Deleterious Substances) (Jiji Press Co., 2001)), the substance was classified as Category 3. [Note] We could not obtain the information about the health hazards in the Priority 1 and 2 documents, because this substance does not have a CAS number. So we used the findings on the free body, 2-(3-Pyridyl)piperidine (ID1339, CAS 494-52-0) when necessary.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - - There is only a report of rat LD50 value >740mg/kg (guidance of toxic substance highly poisonous substance handling, Jiji Press, 2001) of the dermal administration test, and it cannot be classified.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Liquid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - No data available
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data. In addition, in 2 -(3-pyridyl)-piperidine (ID 1339, CAS 494-52-0), there is a report of in vitro mutagenicity test (a chromosome aberration test positives (RTECS, 2006), Ames test negative (HSDB, 2002)). But there is no data of in vivo, it cannot be classified because of insufficient data.
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available
7 Reproductive toxicity Category 2 Warning H361: Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention.
P201: Obtain special instructions before use.
P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P281: Use personal protective equipment as required.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Although there is no data on this substance, in 2-(3-pyridyl)-piperidine (ID 1339, CAS: 494-52-0), teratogenicity was seen in the teratogenicity study using pregnant sows (RTECS, 2006; HSDB, 2002), and it was presumed to be caused by pharmacological action on the uterus like that of nicotine (HSDB, 2002). Thus, it iwas set as Category 2. Furthermore, since nicotine (ID 608, CAS: 54-11-5) and nicotine sulfate (ID 1069, CAS: 65-30-5) were set as Category 2, this substance was judged to have the same property and was defined as Category 2.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 2 (nervous system) Warning H371: May cause damage to organs (nervous system) P309+P311: IF exposed or if you feel unwell: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Although there is no data of this product, since it was considered as Cateory 2 (nervous systems) based on the description that in 2-(3-pyridyl)-piperidine (ID 1339, CAS: 494-52-0), it causes hygrostomia, giddiness, distraction, vomiting, and attack in humans (HSDB, 2002), and tremor and attack were observed in the guinea pig (HSDB, 2002; RTECS, 2006), it was judged that the this product also had the same characteristic, and it was considered as Category 2 (nervous systems).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - No data available
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available
